PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sliding device having a plurality of slide rail units to constitute a double speed mechanism and a slide type hanging door using the sliding device. SOLUTION: In this sliding device, a pair of slide rail units 11 having an inside rail 13 slidably fitted to the inside of an outside rail 12 through a number of rolling elements (ball 14) are disposed parallel to each other, the inside rails 13 of the adjacent slide rail units 11 are integrally connected to each other through a connecting member 16, racks 17, 17 are respectively provided opposite to the outside rails of the slide rail units 11, 11, and both pinions 18 meshing with both opposite racks 17, 17 are rotatably journalled to the connecting member 16. When the outside rail 12 of one slide rail unit 11 in the sliding device is fixed, and the outside rail of the other slide rail unit 11 is moved at a speed V, the inside rails 13, 13 integrally connected thereto through the connecting member 16 are moved at a speed V/2.
