PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic disk device provided with a lock mechanism coping with miniaturization, where a carriage on which a magnetic head is mounted can be arranged in a retreat position at unloading or non-operating. SOLUTION: A carriage 4 which has one end provided with an arm 8, of which the front end part the magnetic head is mounted on, and has the other end provided with a coil 10 is freely rotatably and axially supported on a chassis 6, and the other end of the carriage 4 is arranged in a magnetic circuit having a magnet 12, and the carriage 4 is rotated around the axis by a driving force generated in the coil 10, and the front end part of the arm having the magnetic head is moved over the magnetic disk 2 and a lump 13. In this magnetic disk device, a projecting part 17 is provided in the base end part of the arm 8 to arranged the front end part of the arm 8 on the lump 13; and when the projecting part 17 in the base end part of the arm 8 is placed within a prescribed distance from the magnet 17, the projecting part 17 is attracted by the magnet 12 to keep rotation of the carriage 4 in a fixed direction, and the front end part of the arm 8 is energized toward a retreat position 13a. |
