Appts. for granulating molten slag comprises a closed chute with a granulator at the slag inlet end and a bunker hermetically sealed to the discharge end. The bunker contains water, the level of which is not 100 mm from the chute bottom, and slab is rigidly attached to the bunker wall so that it is outside the zone of impingement of the pulp from the chute and is partially immersed in the water. A grate attached to the slab catches the light matter suspended in the pulp and the clarified water from the pulp overflows a wall into a container. An airlift at the bottom of the bunker supplies the thickened pulp to a dehydrator and driver. Used for granulating slag from a blast furnace with a vol. >3000 m3. The appts. can be used with melting furnaces of any capacity and the recovered clarified water is recirculated to the granulator.
