The hand-operated applicator places a gasket composition on a part(302). It comprises a template(390) with a track beneath the base on which the part is located. In the track a roller, which is connected to a movable arm(176), moves with a dispenser(46) for dispensing the gasket composition. The amount fo composition applied to the part to form a gasket, the path on which the dispenser travels, and the height of the dispenser from the part, which determines the thickness of the gasket, are fixed by the machine. The operator only guides the starting, the stopping, and the dispensing of the composition.
