System comprises an intermediate store (1) with two chambers (3,4) linked to each other by a passage (5). Each chamber holds a preset length of yarn. An air jet system (6) opens into the first chamber (3) to advance the yarn into the second chamber (4). The yarn tensioner is formed by a second air jet system (2) at the second chamber (4), to give a braking action on the yarn taken from it. Both chambers (3,4) have a control function (10) at chamber (3,4) zones near the connecting passage (5), to control the air flow within the two chambers (3,4). Pref. chambers (3,4) form longitudinal hollow zones, with a circular or rectangular cross-section, connected together at inner ends by a passage (5). Chambers (3,4) have identical or different shapes. Where the chambers are the same, the vol. can be varied in the first (3) and/or second (4) chamber. An entry channel is at the first chamber (3) and the second chamber (4) has an outlet, at their outer ends. The air jet units (6,2) are identical, and are mounted to the chamber inlet and outlet channels, to open into the inlet at the first chamber (3) and the outlet channel of the second chamber (4). The jet opening sizes can be adjusted at the air jet units (6,2). Each jet unit (6,2) is connected to a compressed air supply, directed at respective inlet and outlet channels. The clear width of the air flow channels, at the jet units (6,2), can be adjusted to regulate the air flow speed through the units. ADVANTAGE - Requires little maintenance with easy adjustment to the yarn length fed to the machine.
