[Class 100 (ii).] In a late news or like printing-box having means for positively moving both slug-engaging clips out of clamping position, one of the clips forms part of a frame extending around and slidable upon the body of the box, a single operating-member in association with the frame and the other clip, being arranged to apply pressure to the clips along a line on the type side of the base of the recess in the box containing the slugs, so that tendency of the slugs to rise is avoided. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the clip 1 is secured to plates 6, 7 slidably arranged on the sides of the box 9 and connected by a bridge piece 12 carrying an operating screw 13 rotatably engaging the clip 2. The screw 13 is arranged as closely as possible to the line of pressure of the clips on the slugs. The clips 1, 2 have projections 17 engaging recesses 18 in the box. If one clip is more firmly embedded in the slugs 3 than the other, that clip will upon unclamping movement of the screw 13, remain stationary until the projection 17 of the other clip reaches the end of its recess 18 after which the released clip will form an abutment for the screw 13 while the other clip is released. In a modification springs, tending to move the clips to release position, are arranged between the clips and the box, the springs of one clip providing an increasingly effective releasing force as the other clip is moved from clamping position. |
