The invention relates to a hydraulic vibration damper (1), comprising: a container (2); an inner tube (3) arranged in the container (2); a piston (5) which is arranged such that it is axially movable in the inner tube (3) and the internal space of which is divided into a first working chamber (6) and a second working chamber (7); a sealing element (12) via which the piston (5) rests against the inner tube (3) in order to seal the first and second working chambers (6, 7) against one another; an electrically controllable valve (11) for joining the first and second working chambers (6, 7) and arranged on the piston (5); and a bottom valve (10) arranged on an axial end section of the inner tube (3) in order to join the second working chamber (7) to a compensation space (9) formed between the container (2) and the inner tube (3). The bottom valve (10) projects axially into the second working chamber (7) with a section (13). The piston (5) has an operating position, in which same radially surrounds the section (13) of the bottom valve (10) projecting into the second working chamber (7), wherein the sealing element (12) is at the height of the bottom valve (10) in this operating position.
