A fire retardant electrical connection system comprising a first type connector 20 and a second type connector (30, figure 7) for connecting together, where the connectors each comprise: an outer sheath 202, an inner connection part 204, and electrical terminals 208. The connectors are arranged for engagement such that when connected they form a heat resistant shield around the terminal. Preferably the connectors are male and female, where the female connectors outer sheath may comprise axial keyways 214 in the form of elongate slots for receiving correspondingly shaped keys (314) of the male connector. The keyways may end in a circumferential groove that has a latch portion in the form of an integrally moulded, resilient pawl 218 for making a latching engagement with the key of the male connector. A method of making the fire-retardant electrical connection between two connectors is included. These electrical connections may be used for cables of life safety systems such as; fire alarms, voice alarms, public address systems, and emergency lighting systems. |
