A microfluidic device (1) comprises a set of one or more microchannels (10) each comprising: a microchannel portion (12) with a longitudinal liquid barrier (20) extending longitudinally therein, thereby defining a first region (121) and a second region (122) in the microchannel portion (12); one or more first liquid passages (22), at the level of the longitudinal barrier (20); a liquid inlet (11), configured to allow liquid to enter the first region (121); a liquid outlet (13), configured to allow liquid to leave the microchannel portion (12); a transversal liquid barrier (30) arranged between the microchannel portion (12) and the liquid outlet (13) to hold liquid flowed from the liquid inlet (11) in the first region (121), in operation; and one or more second liquid passages (32) at the level of transversal liquid barrier (30), the device further comprising liquid pumping means (15) configured to displace liquid through each microchannel portion (12) of the set of one or more microchannels (10), wherein, the one or more first liquid passages (22) are configured so as to allow, in operation, excess liquid in the first region (121) to flow into the second region (122), transversally to the longitudinal barrier (20), and the one or more second liquid passages (32) are configured so as to allow, in operation, excess liquid in the longitudinal portion (12) to be discharged via the liquid outlet (13). A method for controlling liquid in the microfluidic device (1) is also provided. |
