An ink comprises a solvent, a stabiliser and a phosphorescent metal complex, wherein the phosphorescent complex comprises at least one substituted or unsubstituted aryl-imidazole or heteroaryl-imidazole ligand and the solvent is selected from linear, branched or cyclic ethers comprising one or more O-CH2 units; solvents comprising a CH2-C(R6)H-CH2 unit wherein R6 is an organic residue and the two CH2 groups may be linked by a divalent group; partially or fully saturated bicyclic solvents; solvents of formula R8-CR7=CR7 CH2-R8 wherein R7 is H or C1-10 alkyl and R8 is an organic residue; and solvents comprising a benzyl group. Preferably, the metal in the phosphorescent complex material is iridium and the solvent is cyclohexylbenzene. The stabiliser may be an antioxidant, such as butylhydroxytoluene. A method of forming an organic light-emitting device using the ink and an ink comprising a solvent, an antioxidant, and a phosphorescent metal complex comprising at least one aryl-imidazole or heteroaryl-imidazole ligand are also disclosed. |
