Apparatus and method for dispensing or aspirating fluid

Apparatus (1) for dispensing and/or aspirating a predetermined volume of fluid (5) from a chamber (3), the chamber (3) comprising a lower portion (3a) and an upper portion (3b), the lower portion (3a) for containing fluid (5), the upper portion (3b) being for containing gas (7), the apparatus (1) comprising:
- a controllable valve (13) arranged to be in fluid communication with the lower portion (3a) of the chamber (3);
- a pressure sensor (17) arranged to be in fluid communication with the upper portion (3b) of the chamber (3);
- a pump (9) adapted to be in fluid communication between a source of gas (11) and the upper portion (3b) of the chamber (3);
- a controller (21) in operative connection with the controllable valve (13), the pressure sensor (17) and the pump (9), the controller (21) being adapted to receive signals from the pressure sensor (17) and to control operation of the pump (9) and operation of the controllable valve (13) in function of said signals from the pressure sensor (17). The invention further relates to a method for dispensing and/or aspirating a predetermined volume of fluid utilising this apparatus.
