A pneumatic tire 1 comprises a tread portion 2, a pair of sidewall portions 3, a pair of bead portions 4 with a bead core 5 therein, a carcass 6 extending between the bead portions 4 through the tread portion 2 and the sidewall portions 3, and a sidewall reinforcing layer 10 made of fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) and disposed in at least one of the sidewall portions 3. The sidewall reinforcing FRP layer is disposed on the axially inside of the carcass 6. The fiber reinforced plastic has a tensile strength of not less than 5.5 GPa, and a tensile modulus of elasticity of 260 to 320 GPa. |
