The invention also relates to an adapter sleeve (26).

An optical coupling arrangement for optically coupling first and second ruggedized optical connectors, the optical coupling arrangement comprising: a body arrangement defining a channel extending along a central longitudinal axis that extends between first and second oppositely facing ports that are coaxially aligned along the central longitudinal axis; an alignment structure centrally disposed within the body arrangement along the central longitudinal axis and accessible through the first and second ports, the alignment structure being configured to receive optical fibers of the first and second ruggedized optical connectors, the alignment structure being configured to ensure a defined separation and a defined alignment of the optical fibers on the first and second ruggedized optical connectors; a first attachment structure disposed at the first port, the first attachment structure being configured to engage with a rotatable fastening element of the first ruggedized optical connector when the first ruggedized optical connector is received at the first port; a first sealing structure at the first port, the first sealing structure being configured to cooperate with the first ruggedized optical connector to seal the first port of the body arrangement in a fluid-tight manner when the first ruggedized optical connector is received at the first port; a second attachment structure disposed at the second port, the second attachment structure being configured to engage with a rotatable fastening element of the second ruggedized optical connector when the second ruggedized optical connector is received at the second port; and a second sealing structure at the second port, the second sealing structure being configured to cooperate with the second ruggedized optical connector to seal the second port of the body arrangement in a fluid-tight manner when the second ruggedized optical connector is received at the second port.
