METHOD OF CONFIGURING A MONITORING REGION

There is disclosed a method of configuring a first region 14 which is a virtual monitoring region in an image C captured in a field of view 18 of an image capturing device 16 of apparatus 10 for monitoring the movement of objects 12 through a second monitoring region 26 in the field of view. Each object has an outline 44. The method comprises positioning on a surface 38 in the field of view a target 40.1 which reflects or radiates a known pattern 42 and utilizing the device 16 to capture the image C of the surface comprising the target. Pre-stored data relating to the pattern is utilized to find in the image, an image part comprising the pattern. Parameters relating to the height h of the device above the surface and configuration parameters for the first region 14 are determined such that the first region 14 encloses the outline 44 of an object 12 positioned anywhere in the second region 26.
