<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a resolution so as to be able to check a face. <P>SOLUTION: An image input circuit (100) receives inputted image data to be processed. A face detection circuit (109) detects a face from the image data received by the image input circuit (100), and a face recognition circuit (110) recognizes the face. A reduced region determination circuit (107) determines the extraction region of an input image in accordance with the size of the face detected by the face detection circuit (109).
