According to the present invention, disclosed are a transmission control apparatus and a method of operating the same. That is, the present invention can prevent a transmission impact caused by a different shift pattern, which is different from the preset shift pattern, by determining a deceleration intention of a driver and controlling the transmission of a vehicle, when the vehicle runs out of a slope way and enters to a flatland. The transmission control apparatus comprises: a determining unit which determines a driver′s deceleration intention based on a state of a vehicle, when a different type of gear shifting is attempted compared to a gear shifting pattern related with a slope way; and a control unit which is configured to shift gears according to the gear shifting attempts related with the slope way, when it is determined that the driver does not have a deceleration intention. |
