PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coherent OTDR (optical time domain reflectometer) capable of switching the on/off state of a dummy light. SOLUTION: This coherent OTDR includes a probe light generator 11 for generating a pulsed probe light P<SB>M</SB>, having a modulated frequency; a dummy light generator 12 for generating the dummy light D<SB>M</SB>, having a wavelength which is different from a wavelength of the probe light P<SB>M</SB>; an optical coupler 13 for superimposing the probe light P<SB>M</SB>on the dummy light D<SB>M</SB>; an optical fiber amplifier 14 for amplifying a superimposed light M of the probe light P<SB>M</SB>and the dummy light D<SB>M</SB>superimposed by the optical coupler 13, and transmitting the light to an optical fiber of an optical submarine cable system 100; an optical filter 15, installed on a subsequent stage of the optical fiber amplifier 14 whose passing band includes the wavelength of the probe light P<SB>M</SB>; and an instruction part 16 for generating a control signal that controls the wavelength of the dummy light D<SB>M</SB>as a selection signal S for selecting the blocking or the transmission of the component of the dummy light D<SB>M</SB>of the superimposed light M amplified by the optical fiber amplifier 14.
