A gas discharge display tube contains a plurality of anodes 9 and a plurality of uniform stacks of electrodes each in the form of a different character with like electrodes joined together to form strips 16 which are separated by insulation strips 14. The tube includes ten stacks each comprising digits zero to nine together with a strip 5 having lugs 6 protruding through the anodes to provide decimal points. Electrode strips 16 may be deformed from the flat to space them from the insulation strips and reduce sputtering, a gauze auxiliary grid 19 further checks sputtering. Hg is introduced in a holder 20 and the tube evacuated and filled with gas through an exhaust tube. The anodes may be U-shaped with insulation between adjacent arms. Potentials are applied periodically to the anodes and strip electrodes using synchronized rotary switches, strips not required to light up and gauze 19 are maintained at an intermediate potential.</p> |
