Optical information processing apparatus and method are provided to reduce loss of a storage medium and improve image reproduction efficiency by mounting a diffusion plate to an optical modulator to reduce hot spots. An optical information processing apparatus includes a light source(100), an optical splitter(130), an optical modulator(170), and a Fourier transform lens(200). The light source emits light. The optical splitter splits the light emitted from the light source into reference light and signal light. The optical modulator loads data on the signal light while diffusing the signal light. The Fourier transform lens change the signal light loaded with the data by Fourier-transforms and inputs the Fourier-transformed signal light into a storage medium(210).
