PURPOSE: A method and a device measuring a work piece for CNC fabrication are provided to detect incongruent work pieces by having an effect on size, type, composition or mass of the work piece. CONSTITUTION: A method and a device measuring a work piece(6) for CNC fabrication comprises following steps. A non-contacting sensor having a sensing surface is provided. The first value sample of the mass of the work piece which is not cut is provided. Tolerance is determined on the first value. The work piece is positioned on the sensor(26) to position the surface of the work piece inside limited space on the sensing surface of the sensor. The surface of the work piece is scanned with the sensor to produce signs having second value sample of the mass of the work piece. The tolerance is compared with the second value. In case the second value is out of the tolerance, the work piece is rejected. In case the second value is in the tolerance, the work piece is cut to form a sawtooth shape article.
