PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem in which: in an electrophotographic image forming apparatus, the difference in peripheral surface speed between an intermediate transfer belt and a secondary transfer belt increases due to deterioration over time or the like, which causes the occurrence of shock streaks and color shift.SOLUTION: Patches are formed on an intermediate transfer belt at a predetermined distance, and the distance is measured in a state where the intermediate transfer belt and a secondary transfer belt are separated from each other and in a state both belts are in contact with each other, respectively, to measure the conveyance speeds of the intermediate transfer belt. If the measured speeds are different from each other, the conveyance speed of either one of the belts is controlled so that the measurement in the state where the intermediate transfer belt and the secondary transfer belt are in contact with each other becomes equal to the measurement in the state where both belts are separated from each other. |
