PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical waveguide element with reduced excessive losses caused by a groove and a wavelength plate inserted in the groove.SOLUTION: The optical waveguide element comprises: first mode conversion parts 144a, 144b connected to first optical waveguides 142a, 142b; second mode conversion parts 148a, 148b connected to second optical waveguides 149a, 149b; a plurality of third optical waveguides 146-a1 to -a3, 146-b1 to -b3, 147-a1 to -a3, and 147-b1 to -b3 connecting the first mode conversion parts 144a, 144b with the second mode conversion parts 149a, 149b; a groove 150 dividing the plurality of third optical waveguides 146-a1 to -a3, 146-b1 to -b3, 147-a1 to -a3, and 147-b1 to -b3; and wavelength plates 152a, 152b inserted into the groove 150. |
