A light emitting device and a method for driving the same are provided to prevent generation of stripe patterns corresponding to sub pixels by setting a gradation of the sub pixels corresponding to outermost data lines to be lower than a predetermined gradation. A light emitting device includes data lines(D1-D6), scan lines(S1-S6), a plurality of sub pixels(E11-E66), a scan driving unit(406), and a data driving unit(408). The data lines(D1-D6) are arrayed in a first direction. The scan lines(S1-S6) are arrayed in a second direction different from a first direction. The plurality of sub pixels(E11-E66) are formed on light emitting regions on which the data lines(D1-D6) cross with the scan lines(S1-S6). A sub pixel corresponding to a first outermost data line of the data lines(D1-D6) has lower brightness than the predetermined first brightness. The scan driving unit(406) provides scan signals to the scan lines(S1-S6). The data driving unit(408) provides data currents synchronized with the scan signals to the data lines(D1-D6). The data currents provided to the first outermost data line has a smaller size than a predetermined size.
