The unit has a light emitting diode chip (3), and a housing (100) that partially surrounds the diode chip. The housing has a fastening unit that is provided with a projection and/or recess (122), where the projection and/or recess is arranged at the housing. The projection and/or recess works together with a counterpiece at an illuminating part of a lighting fixture for mounting the lighting unit in the fixture, such that the projection and/or recess and the counterpiece are interlocked. The recess has a hole (121) for establishing a connection between the lighting unit and the fixture. An independent claim is also included for a lighting fixture comprising a lighting unit.
