The engine control unit has a crank shaft that consists of a compressor governor (1) with a proportional share (5) and an integral share (6). An engine speed is used for the proportional share and is determined from the determination of an incremental speed within a combustion cycle of a cylinder. Another engine speed is used for the integral share and is determined by an angular speed of the crankshaft which is averaged over multiple combustion cycles. An independent claim is included for a drive train with a gear box and a dual mass flywheel.
