PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas sensor in which the positional deviation of a metal packing at the time of manufacture is prevented, and also the breakage of a gas sensor element by a crack developed in the flange part of the gas sensor element at the time of manufacture is suppressed.SOLUTION: A gas sensor 1 includes a metal packing 200 interposed between a tip facing surface 3af of a flange part 3a of a gas sensor element 3 and a receiving surface 20e of a main body metal fitting 20, and has a contact area C in which a rear facing surface 200r of the metal packing 200 and the tip facing surface 3af of the flange part 3a are in contact and a separation area D in which the rear facing surface 200r of the metal packing 200 and the tip facing surface 3af of the flange part 3a are separate. When the cross section along an axis line O direction is seen, an angle α formed by the rear facing surface 200r of the metal packing 200 and the axis line O is smaller than an angle &bgr; formed by the receiving surface 20e and the axis line O, the tip facing surface 3af of the flange part 3a being a curved surface deflating inward in the radial direction progressively toward the tip side and bulging outward in the radial direction. |
