PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rights management system and method capable of easily associating, by a user, a document transmitted through email from a client with rights management policy.SOLUTION: Clients 30 and 40 transmit email recipient information, including a destination type for each recipient, to a rights management server 10. The rights management server 10 stores a plurality of rights management policies indicating access rights granted to specified users, and stores a destination-right rule defining correspondence between the access rights and the destination types. On the basis of the recipient information from a client, by applying the destination-rights rule, the server selects an appropriate policy or creates a new policy if an appropriate policy does not exist, and transmits the policy, a document ID and an encryption key to the client. The client encrypts the document, adds metadata to the document, and sends email attached with the document to a mail server 20. |
