The process comprises: placing plates in a sealed enclosure (102), where the plates are arranged parallel to each other and placed one over the other and form a stack (104); and heating the plates and at the same time applying a pressure on the plates along an axis of compression perpendicular to the plates. The pressure is created by a pressurized gas. The pressurized gas is filled in a pressure chamber (110) of the sealed enclosure. The enclosure comprises a welding chamber (114) in which the plates are laid out. The process comprises: placing plates in a sealed enclosure (102), where the plates are arranged parallel to each other and placed one over the other and form a stack (104); and heating the plates and at the same time applying a pressure on the plates along an axis of compression perpendicular to the determined plates. The pressure is created by a pressurized gas. The pressurized gas is filled in a pressure chamber (110) of the sealed enclosure. The enclosure comprises a welding chamber (114) in which the plates are laid out. The pressure is transmitted from the pressure chamber to the plates by a flexible membrane (116), which forms a tight barrier with gases between the pressure chamber and the welding chamber. The pressure exerted by the flexible membrane is distributed on the plates by a distribution wedge resting against a higher face of the stack perpendicular to the axis of compression. A lower face of the stack is opposed to the higher face and perpendicular to the axis of compression based on a compensation wedge. The plates are not blocked in a position compared to the enclosure in a plane perpendicular to the axis of compression by elastic brackets disposed between the stack and side supports disposed within the welding chamber or directly between the stack and the sealed enclosure. The plates are maintained in a position compared to the others in the plane perpendicular to the axis of compression by welding points, weld beads or centering pins parallel to the axis of compression. The centering pins are engaged in openings of the plates. The openings are superimposed ones with the others parallel to the axis of compression. Each plate includes channels formed in the higher face and separated from/to each other by isthmuses. The isthmuses are welded by diffusion with another close plate in the stack. An independent claim is included for a device for diffusion bonding a set of plates by uniaxial compression.
