An electric lamp for illuminating the interior of a handbag, tool box or emergency kit consists of a housing (11) connected by a cable (12) to a battery (10). The housing (11) has a screwed socket (13) to receive a bulb (14) which is surrounded by a semi-cylindrical reflector (17). The base of the housing (11) is coated with a self-adhesive layer (18) so that the lamp can be easily attached to any convenient place inside the handbag or tool box. A switch (16) is provided at the point where the cable (12) enters the housing 11).
