Disclosed are a projector of projecting patterns for motion recognition, a motion recognition device using the projector, and method thereof. The projector for projecting patterns for motion recognition comprises: a light generating unit; a light guide unit for guiding the light generated in the light generating unit in a predetermined direction; a collimate lens for collimating the light transmitted from the light guide unit; and a diffractive optical element (DOE) producing patterns using light which passed through the collimate lens. Also, the motion recognition device comprises: a projector of projecting patterns; a camera for producing images including depth information by photographing the projected patterns; and a control unit for recognizing the motion of a user using the images including the depth information and performing a command corresponding to the recognized motion of a user.
