<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a connector for joining modular floor covering units. <P>SOLUTION: The connector 46 includes a film and an adhesive layer coated on one side of the film. A first tile 41 is placed on a floor material, and the connector 46 is positioned so that an adhesive layer faces upward and does not contact the floor material. The connector 46 is typically positioned so that only a portion of the adhesive layer adheres to the underside of the tile 41, leaving the remainder of the connector 46 extending from the underside of the tile 41 as it is. Tiles 43 are then positioned adjacent the first tile 41 so that a portion of the connector 46 adheres to the adjacent tiles 43. In this way, the connector 46 spans edges of the adjacent tiles 43. The tiles 41 are assembled and connected together on an underlying flooring surface without the need to attach them to the floor surface to create a floor covering that "floats" on the underlying floor surface. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
