[Class 23] [Also in Group I] A liquid-clarifying plant comprises a clarifier or filter and a source of pressure for maintaining pressure conditions in the plant, the source of pressure being controlled by an automatic control which is sensitive to pressure changes in the delivery from the plant. In the construction shown, a pipe e for supplying beer or other liquid under pressure is connected to a rotary or centrifugal pump f adapted to be driven by a motor g. The pump delivers liquid through a pipe e<1> to a centrifugal clarifier a which is connected to a filter press b. The outlet pipe t from the filter is connected by a pipe 1 to an automatic throttle device 2 fitted on a byepass connection 3 between the axial inlet and peripheral delivery of the pump f. The device 2, which has a projection 1a for attachment of the pipe ], is provided with a flexible diaphragm 4 engaged by a disc 5a on a vertical rod 5. The rod is adapted to be pressed downwardly by a spring 7 and is provided with rack teeth 5b engaging a pinion 9 on the shaft 10 of a throttle valve 11. The pressure of the spring 7 is adjustable by means of a handle 8a on a screw 8. Normally the valve 11 partly closes the byepass duct 14. If the pressure at the outlet of the fitter becomes reduced the spring 7 presses down the rod 5, thereby closing further the duct 14, so that the pressure of liquid by the pump f is increased. In the event of sudden back pressure in the pipe t the rod 5 is raised, whereby the throttle valve 11 is opened wide, so that the pressure produced by the pump f at the delivery side of the filter is reduced.
