An integrated circuit 100 such as a system on chip (SoC) may indicate critical battery status without powering-on a substantial portions of the circuit including the host processing cores. The SoC includes a power control unit 150 that generates an indicator to indicate that the battery charge of battery 190 has reached or decreased below a critical battery charge level. In response to the indicator, microcontroller 135, sends a request to power management unit 150 to power up static memory 134 and display unit 160 and configures one or more configuration registers with configuration values. Controller 135 also causes critical battery status data to be stored in static memory 134. Display controller 165, in response to the configuration values, retrieves such data from the static memory to display critical battery status data in a visual form (e.g. a battery symbol) on display screen (280). The other portions of the SoC including dynamic memory, system agent, media processors, and memory controller hubs may be powered-down while critical battery status is displayed on the screen. One or more blocks may be powered on based on identifiers of the blocks. A special boot sequence may be initiated by controller 135. |
