The present invention provides a method of interpolating an image by determining an interpolation filter coefficient. Disclosed is a method to interpolate an image in consideration of the smoothness which differently selects an interpolation filter based on an interpolation position and smoothness of a sub-pixel unit from interpolation filters to generate a pixel value of at least one sub-pixel unit located on the pixel units, and generates a pixel value of at least one sub-pixel unit by interpolating pixel values of pixel unit pixels using the selected interpolation filter.
