A silicon oil sensor (10), comprises a conductive layer (200) made of an organic silicone polymer, eg. silicone rubber, doped with conductive particles, eg. carbon black, silver, copper etc. When the conductive layer contacts silicon oil, the organic silicone polymer swells and causes the electric resistance of the conductive layer to increase. The sensor is especially useful for detecting leakage of silicon oil from oil filled electrical equipment, eg. high voltage power terminals. |
