A spoiler 2 is pivotally mounted on the upper surface of an aircraft wing being hinged at 5 forward of the leading edge and has a downwardly directed projection 4 near its leading edge for inducing separation of the flow passing over the lower surface of the spoiler. As shown, the wing is recessed at 3 to receive the spoiler when it is retracted. The projection may be integral with the rest of the spoiler (Fig. 1, not shown), or the spoiler may be made of sheet metal (Fig. 5, not shown), the projection being riveted to a plate. The spoilers are used for lateral control and are operated through cable transmission from the pilot's control wheel (Fig. 4, not shown). |
