The chuck has the axial thrust due to tightening of the jaws (7) resisted by a ball thrust bearing formed by the shoulder (13), the balls (11) and the thrust race (17). The thrust race is circular, with three equally spaced flats around its periphery which enable ti to be assembled through slots in the inwardly turned flange (15). The thrust race is rotated through 60 deg. to secure it in its working position. The locking ring (19) prevents any rotation of the race and is held in place by screwed cap (27).
