The present invention relates to a method of coding an image. More particularly, the present invention provides a method of coding an image comprising the steps of: intra prediction coding a coding unit by using neighbor blocks adjacent to the coding unit which will be coded; comparing a rate-distortion cost of the coding unit with a threshold value; and determining whether the coding unit is divided according to the comparison result. Thus, the complexity of the coding process is reduced so that an image can be coded at a high speed.
