Provided is a portable electronic device which is a portable electronic device for carrying out communications by means of multiple communication protocols and which is capable of carrying out desirable communications. A controller (10) of a smartphone (1) measures a communication volume of 3G-based communications at a communication unit (6). The controller (10) searches for a WiFi base station if the communication volume of the 3G-based communications is equal to or greater than a first threshold value. If a WiFi base station is found through the WiFi base station search, the controller (10) controls the communication unit (6) so as to establish a communication connection with the base station and switches the 3G-based communications to WiFi-based communications. |
