The device has variable cooking surface areas (12a) which is provided with user interfaces (14a) according to the input and output portions of cooking surface area parameters, such that user interface are strip-shaped. The user interface of the variable cooking surface area is extended over the entire cooking surface of the longitudinal extension (16a). The operator interface portion is associated with each of the variable cooking surface areas. An independent claim is included for method for operating cook device.
