PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aluminum alloy sheet for a can barrel which can be formed into a can having excellent sticking resistance and can expansibility even if being thinned, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: Disclosed is an aluminum alloy sheet produced by dissolving an aluminum alloy comprising, by mass, 0.8 to 6.0% Mg, 0.4 to 1.2% Mn, 0.05 to 0.5% Si, 0.1 to 0.5% Fe and≤0.3% Cu, and the balance Al with inevitable impurities, casting the same at a casting rate of 40 to 65 mm/min, cooling the same at a cooling rate of 0.5 to 1.5°C/s, so as to be an ingot with a thickness of 500 to 650 mm, subjecting the ingot to soaking treatment, subjecting the same to hot rolling at the total rolling ratio of≥99.2% and subjecting the same to cold rolling without performing annealing, and in which, in the central part in the sheet thickness direction of the cross-section, the area ratio of intermetallic compounds with the maximum length of≥1μm is 0.5 to 1.7%, and the number of intermetallic compounds with the maximum length of≥11μm is≤150 pieces/mm<SP>2</SP>.
