PURPOSE:To obtain the titled substance useful as an intermediate for organic chemicals such as drugs, etc., by one process and simple operation in high yield without using raw materials with high toxicity, by using acrylic acid and a benzotrichloride as raw materials, and reacting them in the presence of a catalyst such as iron chloride. CONSTITUTION:Acrylic acid is reacted with a benzotrichloride (e.g., 3,4- dichlorobenzotrichloride, etc.) shown by the formula (R1 and R2 are H, or Cl) in the presence of an iron chloride or an iron oxide (especially preferably ferric chloride, and the amount of it used is 0.0001-0.01pt.wt. based on 1pt.wt. acrylic acid) 50-150 deg.C, preferably at 70-90 deg.C, to give the titled compound. In separation, beta-chloropropionic acid chloride as a low-boiling substance is obtained from the reaction mixture by distillation, etc., and then an aromatic acid chloride as a high-boiling substance is obtained. |
