PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous coating, especially a cationic electrodeposition coating having sufficient erosion resistance due to a polyhydric phenol compound. SOLUTION: This aqueous coating resin having a number average molecular weight of 1,000-10,000 is manufactured by reacting (A) a diglycidyl ether type epoxy resin having a number average molecular weight of 300-2,000, (B) a phenol compound having two phenolic hydroxy groups in a molecule, (C) a secondary monoamine compound, and (D) a polyhydric phenol resin represented by general formula I or II (wherein R1 to R3 are each H or a methyl group; R4 to R7 are each H, a halogen, or a 1-8C alkyl group or alkoxy group; K and L are each a residue of a terminal group of the resin; and m and n are each an integer from 3 to 10).
