PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an occupant detecting device for a vehicle capable of determining an occupant by using a load detecting means having a simple structure.SOLUTION: When an occupant determining means 12 performs occupant determination at predetermined time intervals τ to determine whether a person is seated in a front passenger seat 2 and the person seated is an adult or a child based on a load detecting signal output from a load detecting means 11 including load sensors 11a, 11b arranged on the front passenger seat 2 of a vehicle 1 at an interval along a front-back direction 25 of the vehicle 1, a vibration threshold value setting part 15 sets a vibration threshold value being a reference upon determination of occurrence of vibrations of the vehicle 1. A vibration determining part 16 determines occurrence of vibrations of the vehicle 1 based on the load detecting signal and the vibration threshold value. When no vibrations are found, an occupant determining result is updated. When vibrations are found, the occupant determination result is updated provided that the occupant determination result given by the occupant determining means 12 is not changed over a predetermined period T. |
