摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance a dichroic ratio of a polarizing layer included in a reflective region and to improve display performance in a transflective liquid crystal display device having a transmissive display part and a reflective display part.SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device includes a chromonic liquid-crystalline polarizing layer formed on a first substrate side than a reflection layer in a reflective region, a pixel electrode formed on the first substrate side than the polarizing layer, and a protective layer formed in the reflective region between the polarizing layer and the pixel electrode and tightly in contact with the polarizing layer. The polarizing layer and the protective layer are formed through: a first step of forming a first material to be the polarizing layer on the reflection layer on the first substrate; a second step of forming a second material to be the protective layer on the first material; a third step of patterning the second material by using a resist material formed on the second material to form the protective layer; and a fourth step of removing the first material from a transmissive region by using the protective layer as a mask to form the polarizing layer. The protective layer is formed of a film having a higher hardness than a silicon wafer; and the protective layer holds alignment of chromonic liquid-crystalline molecules in the polarizing layer.
