USE OF EFFECTIVE FRACTION OF ALKALOID ORIGINATING FROM MULBERRY BRANCH FOR PREPARING HYPOGLYCEMIC MEDICINE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a fraction of an alkaloid having a blood sugar-depressing action from mulberry branches as a raw material.SOLUTION: A fraction as a herbal medicine prepared from mulberry branches includes 50 wt.% of a total alkaloid on the basis of the amount of effective fraction, and not less than 30 wt.% of compound 1-deoxynojirimycin on the basis of the total amount of alkaloid. Also provided are a method of preparing the effective fraction, a pharmaceutical composition containing the effective fraction, and use of the effective fraction for preparing a hypoglycemic medicine.
