PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flame retardant having improved acid resistance, to provide a flame-retardant composition containing the flame retardant, and to provide wire and cable having a covering material formed by using the flame-retardant composition.SOLUTION: A flame retardant is constituted by including magnesium hydroxide obtained by subjecting a flame retardant to surface treatment with an epoxy-based silane coupling agent and an amino-based silane coupling agent.
