PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent brightness and contrast from becoming unnatural when performing multiscreen display while enabling video expression in which the brightness and the contrast are enhanced for a video signal.SOLUTION: A video display device comprises: a control section (signal processing sections 1a, 1b, and an area active control and luminance stretch section 4) for controlling a display section 8 and a backlight section 6; and a display instruction detecting section 13a for detecting display instructions of a first and a second input video signals. The control section increases by stretching a luminance of the backlight section 6, and controls light emitting section enhancement processing according to the detection result. In the light emitting section enhancement processing, a light emitting section which is regarded as a video emitting light is detected on the basis of a predetermined feature quantity related to brightness of input video signals, and a display luminance of the light emitting section is enhanced by decreasing a luminance of a video signal of a non-light emitting section except the light emitting section among input video signals. |
