PURPOSE: A remote control device, an image display device, and an operation method are provided to transmit character key input information to an image display device corresponding to input of a character key in the remote control device and display a character image by receiving the character image from the image display device, thereby simply displaying the character image in the remote control device. CONSTITUTION: When a character key is inputted in a state that a second side of a remote control device is headed for a first direction, the remote control device transmits character key input information to an image display device(S945-S955). The remote control device receives a character image, which is generated by input of a character key, from the image display device(S980). The remote control device displays the character image(S985).
