The device has a rotatably driven base camshaft (1) comprising a longitudinal bore (5) at an end, where the longitudinal bore is extended up to a cam unit (12) that is arranged on the base camshaft in a torque-proof manner. An operating element (6) e.g. operating rod and sleeve shaft, is arranged within the longitudinal bore. An end of the operating element is radially extended through an oblong hole (9) of the base camshaft and guided to a driver (10) attacking the cam unit. Another end of the operating element is connected with an adjustment device (24).
